Description
Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City seeks a Nuclear Cardiology Nurse to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this specialty role, you’ll coordinate and provide nursing care for patients undergoing nuclear cardiology procedures, including stress testing, imaging, and cardiac monitoring. Responsibilities include patient assessment, education, IV placement, medication administration, and close collaboration with cardiologists and technologists. You’ll ensure safety, uphold regulatory standards, and document accurately. Expect a supportive, team-focused environment with strong professional development, innovation in cardiac care, and opportunities to impact patient outcomes and community well-being.Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing nuclear cardiology stress tests and imaging procedures
Conduct pre-procedure assessments, review medical histories, verify consents, and prepare patients for testing
Start and manage IV lines, administer medications per protocol, and collaborate on radiopharmaceutical administration
Continuously monitor ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and patient symptoms during stress testing
Recognize and respond promptly to cardiac or hemodynamic changes and activate emergency protocols as needed
Educate patients and families on procedure purpose, preparation, radiation safety, and post-procedure instructions
Document all assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately in the EHR
Coordinate patient flow, communicate with referring providers, and support efficient scheduling within the lab
Adhere to radiation safety principles, infection prevention practices, and hospital policies at all times
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to optimization of nuclear cardiology protocols and patient experience
Nuclear cardiology imaging procedures (SPECT, PET)
Cardiac stress testing (pharmacologic and exercise)
IV insertion and management
Administration of radioactive tracers and contrast agents
Cardiac rhythm and hemodynamic monitoring
EKG interpretation
Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS)
Patient triage and assessment
Radiation safety and ALARA principles
Electronic Health Record (EHR) documentation
Interdisciplinary care coordination
Patient and family education
Infection prevention and control
Dose calculation and medication administration
Emergency response in cardiac events

Current RN license in state of practice (Missouri) in good standing
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Previous experience in cardiology, step-down, ICU, or diagnostic imaging strongly preferred
Certification in Cardiac-Vascular Nursing (RN-BC) or CNOR preferred
Nuclear cardiology or cardiac imaging experience preferred
Knowledge of radiation safety standards and regulations
