Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (CONTRACTOR)
Laboratory of Cardiovascular Intervention

The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Cardiology Nurse Practitioner to perform patient care and scientific research services in support of research performed at the NHLBI, DIR, Cardiovascular Branch, Laboratory of Cardiovascular Intervention.

The Laboratory of Cardiovascular Intervention creates new image-guided catheter-based non-surgical treatments of structural cardiovascular disease and to introduce them into medical practice. The Laboratory also conducts a limited number of diagnostic and interventional catheterization procedures on patients and research subjects at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

There are strong interactions with a wide range of physicians and scientists, and the position offers exceptional opportunities for technology development and patient care within and outside of the NIH.

The existing faculty in the NHLBI DIR is an outstanding group of internationally recognized biomedical researchers covering a wide range of basic and clinical research topics (please see https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/research/intramuralcomplemented by the other research institutes within the DIR (please see http://www.nih.gov/science/#campus).

The NHLBI Laboratory of Cardiovascular Intervention is searching for a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner with experience in managing patients with cardiovascular diseases. The candidate will independently assess and manage patients before, during, and after diagnostic and interventional catheterization, including patient and family and staff and physician education and communication, and including management of the procedural and medical record. The candidate will manage logistical operations of the laboratory including operating the point of care blood testing service, coordinating schedules, coordinating care with other nursing and anesthesia services, preparation of institutional quality assurance reports, and periodic internal compliance reports. Medical management of patients incorporating critical thinking skills with advanced clinical practice and research skills by integrating experiential knowledge and evidence-based practices.

Candidates will participate in preclinical development of novel structural heart interventional procedures in large-animal models, which is an unparalleled opportunity to enhance clinical skills. Candidates will also have the opportunity to join the clinical research operations of the laboratory, which has a track record of developing and deploying successful novel structural interventional procedures and devices including transcaval access and closure, BASILICA and LAMPOON valve leaflet modification, cerclage and MIRTH ventriculoplasty, and SESAME transcatheter myotomy, among others.

Applicants must possess a current, unrestricted and full active certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the State of Maryland. Appointees may be US citizens, resident aliens, or non-resident aliens with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorized visa.  Full-time, Contract, off-hours rotation work may be required as negotiated
